Graphic Tablet Test

How to Quickly Test a Graphics Tablet?

  1. Before starting testing, you must install the latest graphics tablet driver from the manufacturer’s website.
  2. Click the “Start Test” button on this page.
  3. Test cursor movement across the entire graphics tablet area.
  4. Draw several lines with varying pressure — the “Pressure” parameter should change.
  5. Test the eraser (by flipping the pen over) and the buttons on the pen.
  6. For displays, evaluate parallax at the edges and color uniformity.

What to Test in a Graphics Tablet?

  1. Pen functionality and area response. Check if the cursor follows the pen accurately across all corners and edges of the active area.
  2. Pressure sensitivity. The most crucial feature for artists. Test by drawing lines with varying pressure: thin lines with light pressure, thick lines with strong pressure.
  3. Pen tilt. Not available on all models. Test by changing the pen’s tilt angle while drawing; the angle should affect the brush shape (e.g., like a real pencil or marker).
  4. Eraser function. If the pen has an eraser on the reverse side, check its activation and pressure sensitivity.
  5. Absence of jitter and spikes. When drawing a slow, smooth line, it should be even, without random jagged edges or jumps.
  6. Pen calibration correctness. No double-click on a single tap, proper function of the pen buttons (if any).

Types of Graphics Tablets

  • Standard tablets (without a screen).
The main challenge is getting used to coordinate mapping (your hand works on the tablet while your eyes watch the monitor). During testing, focus on cursor positioning accuracy.
  • Graphics monitors (displays).
Testing accuracy is easier here since you draw directly on the image. Key points to check: parallax (the discrepancy between the pen tip and the cursor, especially at the edges), backlight uniformity, and color reproduction.
  • Canvas tablets (large format).
Pay special attention to the absence of “dead zones” across the entire large surface area. Slowly drag the pen from one corner to another while watching the cursor.
