    To test numeric keypad be sure Num Lock is ON.

    Use this online test to check the keys on a computer or laptop keyboard. A working key lights up on the screen when pressed and remains marked after it is released.

    How Do I Test a Keyboard?

    1. Select a keyboard layout that matches your device.
    2. Press all keys one by one:
      • Letters, numbers, and symbols.
      • Arrow, navigation, and additional keys.
      • Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Win, Caps Lock.
      • Function keys (F1–F12).
    3. Make sure the matching key lights up and changes its state after release.
    4. Turn on Num Lock before testing the numeric keypad.
    5. Use the keystroke counter to check repeated presses, or select “Reset” to start again.

    What can the keyboard test detect?

    • Keys that do not register when pressed.
    • Keys that appear to remain held after release.
    • Problems with the numeric keypad, arrow keys, modifiers, and function keys.
    • Whether the selected on-screen layout matches your physical keyboard.

    If a key is not detected

    Try pressing it again, switch the keyboard layout in the test, and repeat the check in another browser or on another device. This helps distinguish a keyboard fault from an operating-system setting or browser limitation.

    The browser may not detect Fn, Touch ID, some media keys, or system keyboard shortcuts. On some laptops, the F1–F12 keys must be pressed together with Fn.
