X, Y and Z show the magnetic field along the device axes in microteslas. The total field combines all three axes. A working sensor responds smoothly to rotation and changes clearly near metal or a magnet.
Cases, speakers, chargers and nearby electronics can distort the field. Move away from large metal objects and calibrate the compass with a figure-eight motion if the direction appears unstable.
